Antique Mahogany Georgian Writing Bureau Bookcase

A magnificent 18th Century Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase, beautifully proportioned and offering both elegant design and highly practical storage. A substantial and impressive antique piece, full of character and craftsmanship.

Constructed in two sections for easier transportation and placement, the upper bookcase features a pair of panelled mahogany doors with striking figured grain. Opening the doors reveals a spacious fitted interior with adjustable shelves, ideal for books and display. The upper section also benefits from two small drawers and a pair of pull-out candle slides.

The lower section features a traditional fall-front bureau which opens to form a generous writing surface. Inside is a well-fitted interior comprising 11 pigeonholes for letters and documents, along with 8 small drawers, perfect for storing writing accessories and valuables.

Below are four graduated drawers arranged as one short over three full-width drawers, offering excellent storage space. The drawers are oak-lined with hand-cut dovetail joints, showcasing the quality craftsmanship associated with fine Georgian furniture. Finished with black wooden knob handles and bone escutcheons.

Raised on bracket feet, the bureau bookcase has a sturdy yet elegant stance. A very heavy and solid antique piece of furniture.
